What is the relevance of Maslow's Hierarchical Needs in Education and Training?
I have mentioned Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs in previous posts so here I want to go into more detail as […]
Maxam Training has expanded its offer to include short, flexible courses perfect for CPD – foundational knowledge to help you quickly adapt to an ever-changing world.
Cognitive Psychologists such as Jean Piaget suggest that we understand the world by building a series of mental building blocks known as schemas. When presented with a new situation or information, firstly we will use our existing schemas to try and make sense of the novel, by fitting it into what we already know. He called this Assimilation.
When we have difficulty making sense of the novel using our existing schemas, we modify or create new schemas. He called this process Accommodation.
Assimilation and Accommodation help us to adapt to new roles, cultures and ways of working, for example.
So what does this have to do with our CPD courses?
In a world that is changing rapidly, largely due to the technological revolution, it is important to remember that the make-up of people largely remains the same, for example, we are programmed to survive; we are social beings who generally prefer to live in groups. As such, we need knowledge to build schemas that can help us to adapt quickly to new environments.
And that’s where our CPD courses come in. We are creating a series of people-focused, short courses, that will provide you with foundational knowledge that you can apply to new situations. Knowledge that will make you think and behave differently in your role, purely because you are aware.
The Fundamentals suite of courses will focus on training, assessing and mentoring. People in all roles can take on these tasks and whilst they may have the necessary skills and qualities to do so, they may be lacking some fundamental knowledge that will help them to do the role even better, improving quality and productivity.
The Social Change suite of courses will be grounded in psychology and are designed to influence positive social change for individuals and organisations.
Accredited through Open Awards’ micro-credential service, we want this training to reach as many people as possible, so we have purposely designed them as short, flexible, online courses that won’t break the budget!
