LEVEL 4 CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION AND TRAINING (CET)
The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (CET) was introduced in Summer 2014 as a replacement for the popular Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS) course.
The Certificate in Education and Training is very similar in content and size to the former CTLLS but has a revised set of standards which better reflects the requirements of such a teacher training qualification within the FE and Skills Sector sector of Education. Also, like CTLLS, the Certificate in Education and Training provides a progression route to the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (formerly known as DTLLS).
The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training is designed to meet the needs of a range of trainee teachers and trainers including:
- Individuals who are not currently teaching and training but who can meet the practice requirements, including the observed and assessed practice requirements of the qualification
- Individuals who are currently teaching and training, including those who have just begun teaching and training and who can meet the practice requirements, including the observed and assessed practice requirements, of the qualification
- Individuals currently working as assessors who wish to achieve a teaching qualification and who can meet the practice requirements, including the observed and assessed practice, of the qualification.
Learners who have achieved the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training can progress onto the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training.
Learners who achieve the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training and who are progressing to higher education accredited qualifications at level 5 or above can have their Level 4 credit recognised in line with the higher education institution’s arrangements for the recognition of prior learning.
Prior achievement of a Level 3 Award in Education and Training qualification or the former Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) award is not a requirement to enrol onto the Certificate in Education and Training course. However, learners who have already achieved either of these awards may use the qualification as evidence of ‘recognised prior learning’ to cover in full the initial mandatory unit of the Certificate in Education and Training programme titled ‘Understanding Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Education and Training’.
The course is delivered by distance / online learning with all course materials being accessed via our own Moodle based online learning platform. The Certificate in Education and Training has a value of 36 credits, these are achieved by completing a number of mandatory and optional units, the details of these are provided in our CET Student Handbook.
The Certificate in Education and Training programme requires you to be observed delivering teaching sessions on a minimum of three occasions. These observations will be conducted by your tutor and/or suitably qualified teachers/trainers from your own area of practice. Observations by video link/recording is possible as long as certain quality assurance requirements are met, you should discuss this option directly with your tutor. In addition to the teaching observations, you will also be required to evidence a minimum of 30 hours of teaching practice over the course period. You may commence the course at any time and progress at your own pace; however the usual completion period is around 6 months.
The Certificate in Education and Training course cost is £880.00 + VAT (£1056.00 incl. VAT). This may be paid in full at the commencement of the course or in three instalments of £352.00 incl. VAT (first payment on commencement of the course, second at the midpoint of the programme and the final payment on completion).
